Montreal , February 10, 2014 – The Société de transport de Montreal (STM) and the Montreal Metro Musicians Association (MMMA) have announced the 50 bands and solo musicians who will be part of the 2014 edition of the “Les Étoiles du Métro” program.
Through this program, initiated in 2012, four locations are exclusively reserved to Étoile musicians:
- Berri-UQAM station (St-Denis exit)
- Place-des-Arts (next to the mural by Frédéric Back)
In addition, the Étoiles will have the chance to play in several activities in partnership with the STM, such as the “Nuit Blanche – Montreal en Lumières” festival, the Journées de la Culture and Bike Fest.
They are easy to find as they have an Étoile musicians banner with their stage name posted at their spot. Musicians can share their talent with metro users, through a booking schedule with the MMMA. Each musician also undertakes to play a minimum of 6 hours a week in the métro. The only compensation Étoile musicians receive is donations through the appreciation and generosity of metro users.
“Les Étoiles du Métro” program, which fits with the goal to improve the user’s experience, aims to provide a greater variety of musical talents to foster the emergence of musical performance in the subway, all the while increasing the wealth of repertoire while promoting musicians , “said Marie Lefebvre, division Manager – marketing at STM .
“The STM is very pleased to launch the third edition of the Étoiles du Métro. The calibre of musicians is increasing year by year. The Étoiles du Métro 2014 will vitalize the Montreal subway with their variety and musical quality , “said Clément Courtois , Director of Communications MusiMétroMontréal .
A rigorous selection process
Étoiles musicians were selected through a rigorous audition conducted last November by three judges from the Montreal music scene: Jean-Pierre Labrecque, Alexandre Mouël and Benoît Piché.
